Lauritz Jensen is viewed as one of the great Danish animal sculptors. He was originally an apprentice of Vilhelm Bissen and was later admited to the Art Academy in 1877 from where he graduated in 1885. Afterwards he was a permanent exhibitor at the Art Academy's showrooms at Charlottenborg and was later part of the censur comittee and a member of the Royal Danish Academy of the Arts.
He made a classical educational trip to Rome in 1889 and lived and worked in Chicago in the US 1894-1896.
He was first employed at Ipsen's widow and later at Bing & Grondahl and Royal Copenhagen, where he achieved his great recognition as a sculptor.
