Bing & Grondahl Aviation plate no.9, Caravelle The name Caravelle is a name that dates back in history to the days of Columbus. The Caravelle started a new era in the history of aviation, as the first really successful airliner only preceeded by the Comet. The prototype flew its maiden flight on May 25th 1955. A total of 274 had been built by SUD-aviation France. SAS had a total of 19 Caravelle aircraft at one time. Last sceduled flight was on September 25th 1974
