Bing & Grondahl Windjammer plate with motif of the Danish training ship named Denmark. This plate is the first in a series of 6 Windjammer plates. The motif of the plates is 6 famous training ships, all painted by the famous marine artist James E. Mitchell.
By the manufacturing of the plates there has been used 22 colours and 24 carat gold to get the exact expression of the details. Windjammer is the English word for big ships using sail and this first plate shows one of the most beautiful full-rigged ships the training ship Denmark.
The artist James E. Mitchell, who has painted all 6 motifs for the plates, has been called the discoverer of the sea by critics. His lifelong studies of the sea has made James E. Mitchell to one of the finst marine painters in the world.
This plate was issued in 1981.
