About the product
1954 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Børge Pramvig, has the title Birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. Bing & Grondahl's Christmas plate from 1954 depicts Hans Christian Andersen's house in Odense. This house was the birth place of Hans Christian Andersen, and the place where he lived with his mother, until he, in 1819, moved to Copenhagen. Hans Christian Andersen was born on April 2nd 1805, as the son of a poor shoemaker and his wife, but his father died when Hans Christian was 11 years of age. The family lived and worked in one small room in the little house in Munke Mølle Stræde. Hans Christian Andersen's house was opened as a museum in 1930, and today the two small rooms, of which only one was occupied by Hans Christian Andersen and his family, are furnished exactly as Hans Christian Andersen described in his diaries. Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales are well known all over the world.
