Why DPH

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Below please find some of the questions most frequently asked by our customers, and see our answers.

Does DPH have all the articles shown on the website in stock?

We have more than 175.000 collectibles in stock, and a large selection of lamps and gifts etc. - as regards old Royal Copenhagen and Bing & Grøndal figurines, vases and plates, we do not have every item in stock. We try to build an informative site, where collectors will be able to see, what has been produced over the years. If the item is marked with a green diode, we do have it in stock. If the item is marked with a red diode we probably do not have it in stock at the moment and we have to check the delivery time. If you want to know whether we have an item in stock, please put it into the basket and send its contents as an enquiry to DPH. We shall then come back with an answer on whether we have the item or not.

When can I expect my order to be delivered?

We ship daily by the Danish Post so usually your order will be dispatched from here within 1-2 working days. If not, we will of course inform you about this and shipping date. We send to the whole world and the delivery time depends of the destination country. Normally it takes between one and two weeks for the parcels to arrive, sometimes it goes faster. We will send you an email when we dispatch your order and a tracking number so you can follow it. Only small orders (under DKK 500) are sent as air mail letter which means that there will not be any tracking no.

How will my goods be packed?

We have packed and shipped fragile goods to the whole world for more than 35 years. We have special designed and approved packing for plates and our figurines are packed with much extra fluff and air packing to make sure that it can handle the transport from Denmark to abroad. Before we send the goods we are very careful with checking that it is the right item, quality and quantity. Each order is checked by two different people which takes a little longer time, but is also means that wrong and damaged items are a rare thing.

What if I am still interested though the item is not in stock at the moment?

If you are interested ina collectible (for instance plates and figurines) which is not in stock we can offer you to put the item in our wanted list and come back to you when we get the opportunity to buy it. Our wanted list is shown on our website and we daily get inquiries from private people, who wish to sell some of the figurines and plates to us. Furthermore we also cooperate with many dealers who also check our wanted list and find figurines for us. If we get the opportunity to buy the figurine we will send you an email with the price and ask whether you are still interested in the figurine.

Can DPH give me some information of the value of my Royal Copenhagen Christmas plates and figurines?

Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to evaluate and date collectibles. If, however, you want to buy or sell the figurine, and wish to know our prices, please put the figurine into the basket, send its contents to us as an enquiry, and we shall come back with a price. All enquiries will be answered, it may though take a few days before you receive our answer.

We inherited some figurines and plates from Royal Copenhagen and Bing & Groendahl, does DPH want to buy?

In order to assess whether we want to buy, we need details on which figurines (mark and number (to be found in the bottom)), which plates (i.e. manufacturer and year) you want to sell. You can send us an email with this information (See contact info). You can also find the articles on our website, put them into the basket, and send its contents as an inquiry to us.- Please see our wanted list, to see which items we need most for the time being.

Why am I not able to see prices of the items?

Before the system is able to show prices on the items you have to click on "show price" and then state the delivery country. This is due to the different VAT rules throughout the world. If the system, after you choose delivery country, still does not show the price but then says "please ask", please send us an inquiry through the basket. Then we will come back to you within 1-2 working days. When the system show a price on the item it normally means that the item is in stock or can be ordered from the factory. If there is not shown any price of the item we probably do not have it in stock at the moment or we do not wish to show the price to everybody of competition reasons. If so we ask you to send us an inquiry as you may be lucky that the item is in stock or that we can offer to help you to find it.

Why are several prices shown on the same item? Does it have something to do with quality?

Some items are sold in different qualities. DPH has new as well as old/used items. For instance, if a figurine is still being produced, this item can be delivered as brand new (1st quality), but often we also have the figurine in stock, old (1st quality or 2nd quality). Prices differ for the different qualities, therefore several prices on one item. Please see furhter information on quality.

I come from a country outsite EU, what is VAT and duty?

Sometimes we will be able to declare the items, so you do not have to pay duty, but we cannot promise you anything. Please ask your local authorities whether they will add duty to a specific products by using the customs no. which is stated on the product.

What is meant by 2nd quality?

Fundamentally it means that the manufacturer, for instance Royal Copenhagen found a small, often insignificant flaw on the item, and they have then marked the item 2nd quality. Royal Copenhagen and Bing & Groendal have scratched the glazing through the factorymark on the back or in the bottom of the item. For further information on 2nd quality look here.

Can I pay with credit card on your site?

DPH makes use of a very safe system for payment, thus making it as safe as possible to use your credit card on our site. Learn more about ways to pay.

How can I use my Christmas plates?

You can use your Christmas plates in many different ways. In Denmark the plates are often shown by hanging on the wall but they are also used as lunch plates or cake plates. Since 1979 Royal Copenhagen has manufactured a Christmas cup with saucer together with the Christmas plate each year. This means that you can actually decorate a whole coffee table with plates, cups, bowls, candlesticks, sugar and cream jug. The Christmas plates and cups are dishwasher safe so you have a beautiful service which is easy to clean. The same you can do with the Desiree Svend Jensen (Hans Christian Andersen) Christmas service. It also consists of Christmas plates, cups and saucers.

How can I find out how old my Royal Copenhagen figurine is?

You find list with marks and backstamps, where you by yourself can date all your old under glaze Royal Copenhagen porcelain. Please click Royal Copenhagen Hallmarks and stamps.
