Desiree Mother's Day Plates 1970-2002
The Porcelain factory Desiree released in 1970 it first Mothers
Day Plate. This plate was Desiree´s first production of decorative
porcelain plates. Desiree's Mother's Day plates took its motifs
from the world of children. In total 25 different plates were
released, with different motifs depicting this charming and
fascinating world, we have all experienced. Among others, Maggi
Baaring, Nulle Oigaard, Mads Stage and Svend Otto S, i.e. some of
Denmark's finest artists, have contributed with motifs for these
plates. When Désirée introduced porcelain and the renowned
technique underglazing in their production, it was used for the
Mother's Day plates, but also, the following year, to introduce a
porcelain Christmas plate. Désirée Denmark started the series of
Mothers Day plates in 1970 and ended it in 1994, so this is the
last plate in the series.
The motifs of all the Sven Jensen Mother's Day plates were
inspired by events from the wonderful world of children. The
Tradition of Mother´s Day has become very common, just as the
Christmas. The Mothers Day tradition started in United States,
where the author Julia Ward introduced the Mother´s Day tradition,
originally to celebrate Peace ,then later it became as we know it
today, the Mother´s Day. All arount the world the Mother´s Day are
celebrated, however the date vary from country to country. In
Denmark Mother´s Day is celebrated the second Sunday in May each
year. This day the tradion says that Mothers gets a bunch of
flowers or another kind of gift, like e.g. a Mothers Day Plate from
their childrens.
Also in 1970 The Porcelain Manufacture Desiree released the
first Christmas plate, or annual plate, all with motif inspired by
the Hans Christian Andersen Fairytales. These plates was issued
from 1970 to 2002.

motif as the Christmas plates, so the christmas plates, now became
