Holmegaard was re-launching the Hogla beer glass in 2007. Beer has become a drink for connoisseurs. And at last beer experts have a glass that matches the character and history of their traditional golden beverage. In 2007 Holmegaard was launching Hogla, a beer glass designed in 1928 by a legendary figure in Danish glass, Jacob E. Bang. "Hogla" is a very significant name for Holmegaard's "new" or retro glass: it is a contraction of "Holmegaard Glass". The glass and the name were both thought up by Jacob E. Bang in 1928, and he was ahead of his time with the beer glass. Hogla could have been designed specifically with critical modern beer drinkers in mind, since they demand solid, traditional skills from the makers of both their glasses and the drinks they pour into them. Jacob E. Bang's ambition was to create a glass that was functional, with none of the curlicues and unnecessary ornamentation of the day. The result was this solid glass, far stronger than the romantic glasses of the time, because the bowl and stem are blown in a single piece. Jacob E. Bang's genius enabled him to design with a twinkle in his eye, and this glass is far more than purely functional. The disk-shaped thickening of the stem where the goblet meets the foot does more than simply strengthening the glass and marking the place where the glassblower attached the foot. It adds a touch of imposing elegance to the streamlined form of the glass. This small Hogla glas was launched in 2008.
