Bjoern Wiinblad:
ceramic artist, draughtsman, painter and designer.
Born September 20th 1918 in Copenhagen.
From 1935 he was an apprentice in typography and
after
wards
attended
Technical
School 1936-1939. At The Royal Academi
of Art he
studied
painting with Aksel
Joergensen 1940-
1943. Later he studied
at the
studios of Lars Syberg.
The leitmotif of Bjoern Wiinblad (BW) has always been ?make people happy?.
He was
also
called
The Merry Son of Nature.BW possesses an
original
talent and has a
big and deep love of oriental art reflected in
his personal
style
and
idiom.
From 1946 he was employed by the Nymoelle Faience Factory.
At
Nymoelle Wiinblad created
his characteristic, multifarious series in red,
green
and black.
The monthplates -
socalled butter boards, year- and
season-plates, vases
and pots
to mention only a few.
On Hoejskolevej 5 in Kgs. Lyngby Bjoern Wiinblad opened his own
workshop in
1952. The products from Bjoern Wiinblad's own workshop are often
hand-painted and more artistic than the pieces Bjoern Wiinblad created for
Nymølle and Rosenthal. In this workshop he has, for instance produced
fountains, tiles, a huge production of vases, figurines, candlesticks and dishes.
Wiinblads big glass and crystal plates as well as series like ?Aladin?
and
the
Christmas-
and Christmas Carol-plate series were created for
Rosenthal
Porzellan from 1957.
The co-operation between Wiinblad
and
Rosenthal
is not limited to plates. On behalf of
Rosenthal he
designed
glasses
,
bowls, dinner
sets
,
vases and
much more.
Bjoern Wiinblad covers a wide field having designed wallpaper,
textiles,
artist-shopping-
bags
and
artist canisters, sculptures in
bronze,
tapestries,
several
posters, furniture, tableware, drinking
glasses, pots, bowl,
plates,
tiles,
fountains,
paintings,
candlesticks,
interior decoration, theater scenery decorations
and theater
costumes,
illustrating the
Thousand
and one Nights as
well
as several children?s books.
He even
wrote a children?s
book himself.
His creations and works
have been countless, and Bjoern
Wiinblad is
still
going
strong,
defying the
fact that he has turned 86.
