Through almost 100 years Royal Copenhagen's
Christmas plates have given people from
all over the world inspiration to either
visit or to refresh memories from Denmark.
To celebrate this 100 year anniversary
in 2008, Royal Copenhagen issues 5 carefully
chosen plates and plaquettes from the
period 1908-2008.
At the top of the famous Round Tower with
its 209 metre long internal spiral path,
two children stand admiring the view of the
snow-clad city of Copenhagen. The cast-iron
railing in front of them bears the monogram
C4,the monogram of the Danish king Christian
IV, who built the Round Tower and many
other impressive buildings in the centre of
Copenhagen. This motif is the work of the
artist Sven Vestergaard, who is also
responsible for the last 19 Christmas plate
motifs, and he has taken the liberty of
altering the view in such a way that it
includes as many as possible of the city*s
most beautiful towers.
