1895 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate
1895 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by F.A.Hallin, is titled Behind the Frozen Window. Bing & Grondahl's Christmas plate from 1895 is the world's first Chritmas plate. Henry Bing had the idea to develop a series of plates with Danish sceneries. The first plate in this series titles Behind the Frozen Window, is a vue over Copenhagen's skyline from a window at Frederiksberg castle, which was built by King Frederik IV in 1704, and used as his summer residence. In the background many of Copenhagen's famous buildings are seen, for instance Round Tower, The Marble Church, Trinity Church, The Stock Exchange and The Church of Our Lady. Copenhagen was founded in 1167 By bishop Absalon who built a Castle with three towers where Christiansborg is now situated, and these three tower are now part of Copenhagen's city arms, and also Bing & Grondahl used this symbol for their pro- duction.
