1994 Behind the Frozen Pane, Bing & Grondahl Centennial plate
The motif of this 1995 Bing & Grondahl Christmas Centennial plate is the same as the motif of the 1895 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate. In 1895 Bing & Grondahl started the first series of Christmas plates in the world. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate series, which took place in 1995, Bing & Grondahl issued The Centennial Collection which comprises five plates. This plate is the fifth and last plate in the Centennial Collection. The motif of the plate is Behind the Frozen Window which was designed by F. Hallin. The motif is a vue over Copenhagen's skyline from a window at Frederiksberg castle, which was built by King Frederik IV in 1704, and used as his summer residence. In the background many of Copenhagen's famous buildings are seen, for instance Round Tower, The Marble Church, Trinity Church, The Stock Exchange and The Church of Our Lady. Copenhagen was founded in 1167 By bishop Absalon who built a Castle with three towers where Christiansborg is now situated, and these three tower are now part of Copenhagen's city arms, and also Bing & Grondahl used this symbol for their production.
