1973 Holmegaard Ships-plate with the brig Catharina as s motif
1973 Holmegaard Ship's plate with motif of
the brig "Catharina & Sophia" of Copenhagen.
The motif is reproduced after a coloured
drawing made by E. Filati in 1793.
Inscription:
Brig Catharina & Sophia
This brig was built in Sønderborg in 1786,
when the builder's certificate was issued,
the Catarina & Sofia belonged to a joint
ownership company under the management of a
merchant Friedr. Fiedler. The slender vessel
was one of the first ships in the quite large
merchant fleet which Friedr. Fiedler built
up during these years.
The Catarina & Sophia was put into service
in the Mediteanean, but in 1798 she
undertook a single long voyage- as far as
to the Danish West Indies, where she called
at St. Croix. In 1793 Jens Lorentsen was
skipper on a voyage to Lisbon, Toulon and
Marseilles.
