The motif of this 1985 Desirée annual cup
from The Porcelain Factory Desiree, also
known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of
Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue is Kronbrog
Castle which is found in the Hans Christian
Andersen fairytale Holder Danske.
The 1985 Hans Christian Andersen Annual Cup
had the same motif as the 1985 Svend Jensen
Christmas plate. So the 1985 Desiree Annual
Cup and the 1985 Desiree Christmas plate
are actaully a beautiful coffee set with
plate and cup.
According to the fairytale "Holger Danske"
by Hans Christian Andersen Holger Danske
is sleeping deep down in the cellar at the
Danish castle named Kronborg Castle. Holger
Danske is dreaming about the things which are
happening in Denmark and on Christmas Eve
an angel is coming to tell him that
everything he dreams is true and Denmark
is not in any danger. The guns at Kronborg
bid strange ships welcome but this means
nothing to Holger Danske who will just wake
up in an emergency to save Denmark.
Désirée started the Annual cup series in
1982 and ended it in 2001. So 20 different
sets were made to complete a perfect coffee
set.
