Books, home decoration, experiences etc. are also popular gifts.
The Mothers Day tradition come from the United States and was invented in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe. In 1914 Mothers Day was accepted as a national holiday in the United States and today it has become one of the biggest holidays. It is one of the most popular days for dine out on a restaurant. It is also one of the biggest days for sales of flowers. In Denmark it has not yet become so popular, indeed it is one of the biggest days for sales of flowers too.
Plates have been made for Mother's Day in many years. Bing & Grondahl issued the first Mothers Day plate in 1969. This series is still very popular and many people use this as a present for Mothers Day. It can bring joy every day if you hang it on the wall, which was the originally Danish tradition, but you can also use the plate for delicious sweets, dessert plates ect. The series is still continued so it is a perfect gift every year.
