Product Description

The motif of this 1990 Desirée annual cup
from The Porcelain Factory Desiree, also
known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of
Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue is Rosenborg
Castle which is found in the Hans Christian
Andersen fairytale Godfather's Picture Book.
The 1990 Hans Christian Andersen Annual Cup
had the same motif as the 1990 Svend Jensen
Christmas plate. So the 1990 Desiree Annual
Cup and the 1990 Desiree Christmas plate
are actaully a beautiful coffee set with
plate and cup.
In the fairytale "Godfather's Picture Book"
the writer Hans Christian Andersen mentions
the birth of the Danish King Christian 4.
In his time King Christian 4. built many
admirable buildings. Among these buildings
we have to mention Rosenborg Castle. The
King wanted a "summerhouse" and the first
stones to this house were placed in 1606.
Since that the castle has been extended
several times.
King Christian 4. died in this castle.
Today the castle is no longer used as a
royal residence. Instead it houses the
Crown Jewels and the Danish Crown Regalia.
At the museum it is also possible to see
the history about the Danish kings through
300 years.
The 1990 Desiree Annual cup was designed by
Svend Otto S.
Désirée started the Annual cup series in
1982 and ended it in 2001. So 20 different
sets were made to complete a perfect coffee
set.
All motifs of the Hans Christian Andersen
annual cups from Désirée are inspired
by Hans Christian Andersen´s Fairy Tales.
