In 1997 Bing & Grondahl released the first cup and cake plate in this series, which ended in 2002. The cups are especially popular around Christmas and many people wish that the series was continued, but unfortunately from the beginning it was decided that the series should only consist of 6 different sets.
Each set consists of a nice high handle cup with saucer and a cake plate of 17 cm. The cup is divided into four squares in which the motif is painted and surrounded by a gold border. Furthermore the same motif is painted on the saucer to be seen when you lift the cup and it is also depicted on the cake plate.
The motif in 1997 shows a beautiful centerpiece with a large bouquet of holly with red berries, in 1998 a sleigh with two passengers pulled by two horses in a beautiful snowy landscape was depicted. 1999 shows a majestic Christmas tree standing in a pot in front of a big, beautiful window. The 2000 edition depicts a girl skating on a frozen lake and in 2001 we see two beautiful Christmas bells ringing surrounded by a beautiful pine and gold decoration. The last cup from 2002 shows a bird surrounded by winter green fir branches.
The artist Jette Frölich, has designed all motifs on the Christmas cups.
The cups are intended primarily for the Christmas table setting, but actually they are pretty on every coffee table in autumn or winter. Therefore, they can both be described as Bing & Grondahl annual cups and Christmas cups.
