Bing & Groendahl Easter Plates: Motifs that Stand Out
Following the great success of Bing & Groendahl's Christmas plates, the factory decided in 1910 to launch their first Easter plate. These Easter plates differed from the Christmas plates by having a more eye-catching design, with motifs produced in relief instead of flat on the plate, giving them a unique expression, almost like an inverted deep plate. Therefore, these plates are not suitable for eating from.
The beautiful blue and white Easter plates, also known as spring plates, had motifs that ranged widely and included, among other things, religious scenes associated with Easter as well as harbingers of spring, such as migratory birds returning to Denmark after the cold winter, and life in the countryside with the farmer's and animals' activities in the spring months.
Even though Bing & Grøndahl collaborated with some of Denmark's finest designers, including Dahl Jensen and Achton Friis, the Easter plates did not achieve the same level of popularity as the Christmas plates. Bing & Groendahl therefore decided to end the production of Easter plates in 1935.
