1936 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Ove Larsen, has the title The Royal Guard outside Amalienborg Palace Bing & Grondahl's Christmas plate from 1936 depicts the Royal Guards outside Amalienborg castle in Copenhagen. To the left the Marble church,which was built from 1749 but not finished until 150 years later. The Royal Guards were formed in 1658 by king Frederik 3rd.Their motto is pro rege et grege for king and people. The task of the royal guards is to guard the royal family and their castles, here Amalienborg (see plate from 1914) which is the winter residense of the Danish royal family. The changing of the guards can be seen at Amalienborg palace every day at 12 o'clock.
