Edvard Eriksen attended the Art Academy from 1894 to 1899. He debuted in 1902 at Charlottenborg and exhibted there often afterwards. In 1904 he received the annual medal. He received a scholarship and stayed in Italy and Germany for many years.
He most famous artwork is The Little Mermaid at Langelinje in Copenhagen, which is also the motif of his Royal Copenhagen figurines.
In the period 1910-1918 he worked on the tomb of Christian IX and Queen Louise in the cathedral of Roskilde.
In 1914 he became member of the plenar assembly an in 1928 the Academy Council. He became an honorary professor at the academy of Carrara in 1916. From 1930-1953 he was a kurator at Thorvaldensen's Museum.
