Arabia Christmas Plates from 1978 to 2002
Arabia Christmas plates were released from 1978 to 2002, and over the 25 years the series achieved many different expressions. Common to the plates are the sturdy stoneware, Christmas and winter motifs, and the hand-painted gold details that recur across the years.
From Raija Uosikkinen to Tove Slotte
The series' first editions from 1978 to 1989 were designed by Raija Uosikkinen. From 1990, Tove Slotte took over, continuing to create the annual motif until the series ended in 2002.
This means that through the series you can follow the work of two different artists with Christmas as the theme. Some plates show calm winter landscapes, while others have more detailed Christmas motifs with people, houses, and nature. This provides great opportunities to find exactly the year or motif you like best.
Stoneware with hand-painted details
Arabia Christmas plates are made of stoneware and therefore have a strong and solid body.
The gold is hand-painted and used differently from year to year. On some plates, it appears only in small details, while on others it is more prominently part of the motif, giving each year its own character.
From Christmas table to wall
Arabia Christmas plates are perfect to bring out as plates when setting the Christmas table a little differently. With their 23 cm size, they work well for lunch, cake, or dessert, and the different years make it possible to mix motifs and set a table where no two plates need to be the same.
When not in use, the plates can have a place on the wall. From 1980, they have holes on the back, while earlier years can be hung with plate accessories. This way, they don't have to end up at the back of the cupboard but can be part of the Christmas decoration year after year.
