Arabia Christmas plate 2000 Snow Crystal - Tove Slotte

Arabia Christmas plate 2000 with the motif Snow Crystal combines Finnish Christmas tradition with a strict, decorative design language that makes this edition easy to recognize. In the middle of the plate, the large white snow crystal stands out sharply against the deep blue background, while the warm red border around the motif creates a beautiful contrast and gives the overall expression a special Christmas atmosphere. Snow Crystal is particularly well suited as a title for this motif. The central form has something both graphic, almost ornamental about it and at the same time the light winter feeling one associates with snow, frost, and clear December days. Along the edge, bells can be seen in alternating blue and green shades, and the hand-painted gold decoration highlights both the border, the year, and details in a calm and effective way. This gives the plate a fine balance between the simple snow crystal motif and the more narrative Christmas border.

This Finnish Christmas plate is designed by Tove Slotte for Arabia Finland, which is Finland's most recognized porcelain factory within ceramics and applied art. The series of Arabia Christmas plates began in 1978, and the 2000 edition shows how the series evolved with more stylized and decorative motifs, without losing the connection to Nordic winter and Christmas.

The plate is made of stoneware, which provides a strong and robust body. This makes it suitable both as wall decoration and for use on the table, where with its 23 cm it works well as a lunch plate or for a light serving during the Christmas season. From 1980 onward, Arabia Christmas plates have holes on the back for hanging, so this edition can easily be included in a plate wall or hung up as a permanent part of the December decorations.

Our example comes from an old remaining stock of Arabia Christmas plates and is unused. This makes it possible to acquire an older Christmas plate with history and original character, which has never been taken into ordinary use. Many of the plates from this remaining stock are still in their original Arabia boxes.
