Arabia Christmas plate 1981 Raija Uosikkinon

Arabia Christmas plate 1981 shows a lively winter scene, where the Nordic Christmas unfolds among farms, fir trees and a small church setting in the snow. The blue-and-white motif is filled with small narrative details: children on skis, a person with a sled, another by the well and houses with warm, yellow windows that give the image a calm and homely atmosphere. The year 1981 is highlighted at the bottom in the hand-painted gold decoration, which also follows the edge and beautifully brings the composition together.

This Arabia Christmas plate is designed by Raija Uosikkinon, who is behind the year editions from the series' first period. The motif has the fine balance that characterizes many Arabia Christmas plates: winter landscape, everyday life and Christmas peace gathered in one image. The church in the background, the snow-covered roofs and the dark fir trees create depth, while the small human figures make the scene intimate and full of life.

Arabia Finland is known for strong traditions within Finnish design and decorative arts, and this Finnish Christmas plate is a good example of exactly that. The plate is made of stoneware, which gives a robust and substantial body. This makes it not only suitable as wall decoration, but also as a plate for serving, for example for a lunch arrangement or a cake at Christmas time, where the motif can help create atmosphere around the table.

Since the series began in 1978, 1981 belongs to the early Arabia Christmas plates, which many keep a particularly close eye on. Our example comes from an old remaining stock of older Arabia Christmas plates and is unused. This provides the opportunity to get an older stoneware plate with history, but in a condition where it has never been used. Many of the plates from this remaining stock are still in their original Arabia boxes.

From 1980 onwards, Arabia Christmas plates have holes on the back for hanging, so this edition can both be used on the table and hung up as part of the Christmas decorations or a collection of Finnish Christmas plates.
