Arabia Christmas plate 1996, The little Christmas village, depicts a calm winter scene, where the snow has settled heavily over the red houses, the courtyard and the forest edge behind. The motif brings together many of the moods associated with a Nordic Christmas: light in the winter darkness, small everyday moments and the feeling of a local community where people and nature belong closely together.

In The little Christmas village one sees several fine details that bring the motif to life. The red buildings stand warmly against the white snow, while dark fir trees and a starry sky form the background. Two children walk together on the path, and a little further up a person with a cat can be seen. On the hill behind the house there is also movement in the motif, so the plate takes on a narrative character, where one almost senses a quiet winter day in a small Finnish village. The hand-painted gold decoration can be seen both on the edge, in the small stars in the sky and in the year 1996, where it creates a fine contrast to the cool winter tones.

This Arabia Christmas plate is designed by Tove Slotte, who is responsible for the series' annual editions from 1990 onwards in this period. Arabia is known as Finland's most recognized porcelain factory, and the Christmas plates have over the years gained a special place among collectors of Finnish design and Nordic applied art. The 1996 edition in particular combines the simple visual language with a warm story, which makes it interesting both as a collector's item and as atmospheric Christmas decoration.

The plate is made of stoneware (stoneware), which gives a robust and substantial body. With a diameter of 23 cm, it can not only be hung up, but also used as a plate, for example for lunch or a serving at Christmas time. This makes this stoneware plate more than mere decoration.

Our example comes from an old residual stock of older Arabia Christmas plates and is unused. This gives the opportunity to acquire an older design piece with history, which has never been put into use. Many of the plates from this residual stock are still in their original Arabia boxes.
