H.C. Andersen figurine no. 2037 or 445 Bing & Grøndahl

This H.C. Andersen figurine from Bing & Grøndahl combines Danish storytelling art and classic porcelain design in one motif that immediately evokes recognition. The figurine shows the famous poet seated with an open book in his lap, while a little girl in a blue dress stands close by his side and looks up at him. The interplay between the two creates a warm scene with presence, reading aloud, and a fairy-tale atmosphere.

Henning Seidelin designed the figurine with a sense for both character and storytelling. H.C. Andersen is depicted in a dark suit with a cape over his shoulders and a raised hand, as if he is in the middle of a lively reading aloud. The little girl emphasizes the figurine's fairy-tale universe and makes the motif ideal for collectors of H.C. Andersen figurines, porcelain figurines, and Danish cultural history.

The porcelain figurine is made in underglaze, which gives the subdued colors and the glossy surface a calm and harmonious expression. The combination of the gray shades, the white base, and the girl's bright blue dress gives the figurine depth without seeming heavy. It is a figurine that fits beautifully in a bookcase, on a desk, or as part of a collection of Bing & Grøndahl figurines and other motifs with fairy tales and literature.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special ability to add personality and history to the home. Here you get not just a decorative figurine, but a piece of Danish design heritage, created to be appreciated for many years. It is also an obvious gift idea for anyone who is fond of H.C. Andersen, classic porcelain, or figurines with storytelling and cultural-historical reference.
