Royal Copenhagen Commedia dell´Arte Technique: Underglaze
In general: Melancholy, teasing and delight. The masters of mimicry have been entertaining people with these expressions since the Italian Renaissance. This kind of comedy was given the name "Commedia dell´Arte" It is this "Comedy of Art" that gave Royal Copenhagen inspiration to the Commedia dell ´Arte range, which is made up of four figurines : Arlecchino, Colombona, Pierrot and Pulcinella. Pierrot har his origins in the French panto- mime, but turned up in the Italian Commedia dell'Arte in the 17th century, as a foil to Arlecchino. He is a well-known and much loved symbol of romantic melancholy.
