Bing & Grøndahl seagull figurine no. 1810 1020430

This seagull figurine from Bing & Grøndahl has a calm and natural expression, which makes it easy to appreciate. The bird is modelled low and compact with the head slightly bent forward, small feet hidden under the body and the tail raised in two pointed surfaces. The simple form gives the figurine a fine sense of movement, as if the seagull has just settled and is following its surroundings with an attentive gaze.

The light porcelain is decorated with soft brownish shades on the head, beak and tail, and the smooth underglaze brings the colours together in a subdued, harmonious expression. Jens Peter Dahl Jensen was known for his lifelike animal figurines, and it is precisely here that one senses his sure feel for the bird's character without superfluous details. It is Danish porcelain design, where form and motif merge into a higher unity.

As a bird figurine, it fits beautifully into both classic and modern interiors. It can stand alone on a shelf, in a display cabinet or together with other porcelain figurines from Bing & Grøndahl and Royal Copenhagen. For collectors, both the original item number 1810 and the newer number 1020430 are important pieces of information when the figurine is to be identified.

Older porcelain figurines like this have a special charm because they bring history, craftsmanship and personality into the home. It is also a sustainable way to decorate: quality workmanship created to be appreciated for many years and across generations. A seagull in porcelain is at the same time an obvious gift idea for collectors, bird lovers and everyone with a fondness for Danish decorative art.
