Boy with fish figurine no. 37 or 4037 Bing & Grøndahl

This porcelain figurine depicts a boy with a fish and contains the quiet story for which Kai Nielsen is so well known in his human figures for Bing & Grøndahl. The motif has a calm and down-to-earth expression, where the child's posture and the interaction with the fish give the figurine life and presence. It is precisely the type of motif that makes older porcelain figurines so sought after among collectors and among those who want personality in their interior decor.

Executed in Blanc de Chine, the figurine acquires a soft, uniform white expression that highlights form, modelling and the small details in the motif. The light porcelain surface gives the figurine a classic character that fits beautifully into both modern and more traditional homes. Here it is not the colours, but the form itself and the story, that carry the expression.

Kai Nielsen had a special ability to create figures with humanity and movement, and this boy with a fish is a fine example of exactly that. The motif can evoke associations with childhood, nature and life by the water, and therefore the figurine is also ideal for collectors of Bing & Grøndahl figurines, Kai Nielsen porcelain and classic boy figurines. It works beautifully on its own on a shelf, on a chest of drawers or in a display cabinet, but can also be combined with other white porcelain figurines for a calm and harmonious expression.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special charm because they are created with an eye for both craftsmanship and durability. Choosing a figurine with history is at the same time a beautiful way to bring quality and character further into the home of today. It is reuse with aesthetic value and an obvious gift idea for the collector or for the one who is fond of Danish porcelain design with soul.
