Seltmann Swedish Landscapes platter / plate, Södermanland, 1982

Seltmann Swedish Landscapes platter / plate from 1982 with motif from Södermanland is a fine combination of Swedish landscape idyll, blue-white porcelain decoration and useful everyday function. On the front stands the name of the landscape and the year as "Södermanland 1982", and the motif opens up a moodful view out over water, town and manor surroundings in classic Seltmann style.

The central motif shows a coastal or lake landscape with several layers of view. In the foreground a house on a slope with a flagpole is seen, while the water spreads out behind it. Further into the picture lies a large building with domes or towers surrounded by trees, and in the background a town with church tower along the water can be glimpsed. To the right a steamboat sails calmly forward, which gives the scene life and tells of Södermanland as a landscape marked by the connection between nature, waterways and settlement. The expression is calm, light and summery, with the special blue-white atmosphere that makes the series so easy to love.

Around the landscape motif runs the series' characteristic blue flower and plant border. It ties the 25 Swedish landscapes together in a common expression and at the same time makes this porcelain platter decorative both alone and together with other Seltmann Swedish landscape platters. It looks beautiful on a plate rack, on the wall or as part of a table setting with several different landscapes.

Seltmann Weiden is known for porcelain where the decorative and the practical go hand in hand, and that is also felt here. The platter does not need to be only for decoration. It may be used for food and works well as, for example, a lunch or cake plate. That it is also dishwasher safe makes it easy to put into use in everyday life, so that the beautiful Swedish porcelain motif does not just get stored away.

As older porcelain with history, this Seltmann plate also has a special charm. That is precisely part of the joy of vintage and used quality porcelain: that one can give beautiful craftsmanship new life in a modern home and choose something with soul, history and long durability. On the back there are two holes for hanging, so it is also ideal as wall decoration.
