About the product
1990 Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate, designed by Sv. Vestergaard, has the title Christmas at Tivoli. Royal Copenhagen's Christmas Plate from 1990 depicts Copenhagen's famous pleasure garden Tivoli, which was created in 1843, by a 31-year old Danish journalist, Georg Carstensen. Copenhagen was still a garnison town at that time, so the king's concent was needed to build on its ramparts. Fortunately, Georg Carstensen's idea of building a tivoli on the French model outside what was then the city's West Gate (Vesterport) found great favour with King Christian VIII. One of tivoli's most famous buildings is the Pantomime theatre from 1874, where the old Italian art of pantomime has been continued to this very day in the tradition of Guiseppe Casorti - with the much loved, classical figures : Harlequin and Columbine and the most loved figure of all Pierrot.
