Niels Thorsson was employeed at the faience factory Aluminia in 1912 and stayed there throughout his life and thus also became attached to Royal Copenhagen, when the two factories merged. He was artistic director at Aluminia 1933-1969 and leader of the stoneware department at Royal Copenhagen 1949-1969.

Niels Thorsson first became a recognised name, when he exhibited a series af variegated faience at the world exhibition in Paris in 1925 and won a gold medal. He also travelled to Italy, France, England and Austria to study.

He designed many faience vases and dishes in abstract patterns that are very common in Danish households today. Furthermore he also designed the colourful Christmas plates from Aluminia.
