Royal Copenhagen plaquettes

Over many years, Royal Copenhagen has regularly published a series of blue plaquettes with Danish attractions. The small Royal Copenhagen mini plates have been widely used as souvenirs in Denmark or as business gifts for foreigners or gift for foreign family with Danish roots. Because of this the Royal Copenhagen plaquettes have become popular collectibles, primarily for people abroad.

The series includes more than 200 mini plates with different motifs from Denmark. The motif of the first Royal Copenhagen mini plate is Rosenborg Castle. Almost all Danish castles are depicted on the Royal Copenhagen plaquettes - Amalienborg Palace, The Hermitage Castle, Fredensborg Castle, Allholm, Koldinghus, Frederiksborg, Kronborg, Graasten, Christiansborg, Marselisborg Castle, Egeskov Castle, Tranekær, Nyborg Castle and Sønderborg Castle.

Of course there have also been depicted many of our churches: Aarhus Cathedral, Maribo Cathedral, Ribe Cathedral, Haderslev Cathedral, Viborg Cathedral, Roskilde Cathedral, Church of Our Saviour, Tønder Church, Budolfi Church, Køge Church, Kalundborg Church and the Marble Church.

As mentioned, the Royal Copenhagen plaquettes were very popular souvenirs and therefore many of the most famous Danish attractions are portrayed on the small plates: Dybbol Mill, The training ship Denmark, the Round Tower, The sanded Church, Østerlars Round Church, the Stock Exchange, City Hall, Ebeltoft Town Hall, Randers City Hall, Aarhus City Hall, Hans Christian Andersen Museum, Rebild, The Old Town in Aarhus, The Goose Tower, Tivoli, Svendborg Harbour, The Royal Guard, The Royal Yacht, The Open Air Museum, and the Himmelbjerg.

So the plaquettes shows some of the best known and most visited attractions in Denmark, but at the same time, Royal Copenhagen has paid attention to depict other parts of Denmark, as the landscape is also represented at the plaquettes. For example we also see a farmer in the process of seeding with horses, a stone house in Aalborg, an old Danish winter landscape with a sleigh, a stork, fishermen, Ærøskøbing, Kaleko Mill, the Runestones in Jelling, Viking Boats, Fish Market, the Little Belt Bridge, Greenland, Rømø, Fanø, Nakskov, Gudhjem, Water Tower in Esbjerg, Nykøbing, Amager, Vejle and Assens.

On the back of the plaquettes is a hole, so they can be hung on the wall, but they can also be displayed in small plate stands in a display cabinet or on a sideboard.
