Royal Copenhagen flowers and landscape plates in biscuit, porcelain, stoneware and faience

Over the years Royal Copenhagen has used various materials to produce their plates with flowers and landscapes. The best known and most used is, of course, porcelain but also stoneware and faience has been used for many years.

Royal Copenhagen porcelain plates with flowers and landscapes

Royal Copenhagen has often produced porcelain plates for different occasions - for example, if one of our Danish cities have had to celebrate a particular event, but also just to show a beautiful landscape.

Royal Copenhagen faience plates with flowers and landscapes

The Royal Copenhagen faience plates with flowers in the series "Annual Flower" are incredibly beautiful with flowers of many colours on strong blue background. This particular series was only produced in a short period from 1991 to 1994, but Royal Copenhagen faience plates are popular and are often more colourful than the usual blue Royal Copenhagen porcelain plates. Royal Copenhagen has also released a series of faience bowls of 15 cm with a distinctive blue border that surrounds the subject in the centre. The motifs of these faience bowls depicts Danish attractions such as the Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense, Frederiksborg Castle, The Old Town in Aarhus and Fano. The bowls can also be used as ashtrays, but as smokers are bocoming more rare, the bowls are now more often used as bowls.

Royal Copenhagen biscuit plates with flowers and landscapes

One of the newer plate series is "The Art of Giving Flowers" which appeared in a brief period around 2008-2009. The series stands out from previous series because it combines different materials. Some of the plates are made of pure biscuit, others completely glazed and some combine both biscuit and glaze. The plates are made with white base colour and motif of flowers in relief in delicate blue, pink and white colours.

Royal Copenhagen Stoneware plates with flowers and landscapes

In the 1960s and 1970s stoneware was a favourite material for the manufacturing of plates, dishes, figurines and vases. One of the best known designers, who have worked extensively with stoneware, is Knud Kyhn. He was the designer of the famous stoneware bears and many other stoneware figurines. He has also designed plates and bowls in stoneware, often with motifs of animals such as deer, bears and birds.

The art of giving flowers is a beautiful series, i.a. in all white!
