Bing & Grøndahl bricklayer figure no. 1021426 / 1786

This bricklayer figure from Bing & Grøndahl is a classic craftsman figure with a calm and down-to-earth expression. The figure depicts a bricklayer in a relaxed, thoughtful pose with his hands on his hips and his gaze slightly lowered, as if he is assessing the day's work. This gives the figure presence and character and makes it a fine choice for collectors of porcelain figures with motifs from working life, craftsmanship and everyday realism.

The porcelain figure is made in the realism series and shows Niels Nielsen's sure sense of human types and natural movements. The light glaze and subdued shades emphasize the figure's calm overall impression, while the details in the cap, work clothes and foot position lend credibility to the motif. It is precisely the combination of simplicity and precision that makes this Bing & Grøndahl figure interesting for both collectors of Danish figures and for those who are fond of craftsman figures with personality.

As a bricklayer figure, it fits well into a collection with occupational figures, farm life and other porcelain figures that depict people at work. It can stand alone on a shelf, in a display cabinet or on a desk, where it adds a touch of Danish design history and respect for classic craftsmanship to the home. It is also an obvious gift idea for the bricklayer, the craftsman or the person who appreciates figures with motifs from trades and traditions.

Bing & Grøndahl is known for porcelain with a strong figurine tradition, and this model is a good example of how an everyday figure can contain both narrative, cultural history and decorative value. For collectors, the item number is an important part of the identification, and for the interior, it is a figure that creates calm, weight and human warmth.
