Bing & Grøndahl starling figurine no. 1880 Niels Nielsen 19 cm

Bing & Grøndahl starling figurine no. 1880 is a classic Danish bird figurine in porcelain, designed by Niels Nielsen. The figurine depicts the starling in an upright and attentive posture with its beak slightly raised, as if it is just about to join in song. This gives the figurine a lively expression, which makes it decorative both on its own and together with other bird figurines from Bing & Grøndahl.

The colours emphasize the bird's character in a delicate and lifelike way. The dark, glossy body is decorated with light markings on the chest and warm brownish shades on the wings, while the neck has a green sheen that brings to mind the starling's play in the light. The light base quietly lifts the motif forward and creates a beautiful contrast to the bird's deeper tones. The overall impression is harmonious and detailed without seeming heavy.

Niels Nielsen is known for his bird figurines with a sure eye for both movement and proportions, and this is clearly felt here. This porcelain figurine combines decorative value with the special collector interest associated with Bing & Grøndahl's animal and bird figurines. It fits beautifully in a display cabinet, on a shelf, or as a discreet detail in a Nordic interior, where classic Danish porcelain adds personality and history to the home.

For collectors of Bing & Grøndahl figurines and for those who appreciate bird figurines in porcelain, model 1880 is an obvious choice. It also works well as a gift idea for someone who appreciates Danish design, craftsmanship, and figurines with a naturalistic expression.
