Bing & Grøndahl Greenlandic woman with bucket figurine no. 2416

Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 2416 depicts a Greenlandic woman at work, bent over her bucket in a motif with calm, gravity, and an everyday narrative. The figurine is modeled by Karl Kristoffersen and renders a moment from daily life with great attention to posture, movement, and the small props around her. It is precisely this concrete scene that gives the figurine presence and makes it interesting for collectors of porcelain figurines with folk and cultural motifs.

The subdued color scheme in light gray, brownish, and white shades suits the motif beautifully and emphasizes the figurine's calm expression. The woman is depicted in a kneeling working position with bucket and tub in front of her, and the composition has a fine balance between the simple and the detailed. Under the glaze, the porcelain gets a soft depth that highlights the shapes of both clothing, hands, and face.

As a porcelain figurine from Bing & Grøndahl, this Greenlandic female figurine has both decorative value and collector interest. The motif fits well into a collection of people in national costumes, ethnographic figurines, or classic Danish porcelain figurines. At the same time, it is also a figurine that stands strongly on its own in the decor, where it adds personality, history, and a more reflective expression than much contemporary mass production.

Older porcelain figurines like this are created to be preserved and appreciated through generations. Choosing vintage porcelain is also a way to give beautiful craftsmanship new life. The figurine can be placed in a display cabinet, on a shelf, or together with other Bing & Grøndahl figurines, where its narrative motif and calm colors are allowed to come into their own.
