Bing & Grøndahl Boy with conch shell figure no. 36 or 4036

Boy with conch shell is a classic Bing & Grøndahl figure with a motif that exudes calm, imagination and the curiosity of childhood. The figure shows a little boy lifting a large conch shell up to his ear, as if he is listening to the sound of the sea. The simple white representation gives the motif a clean and sculptural expression, where the movement of the body and the organic form of the shell stand out clearly.

The figure is made in Blanc de Chine and bears the soft, luminous expression for which this very technique is known. The white porcelain emphasizes Kai Nielsen's confident formal language and his ability to create life and character in a figure without the use of colors. The boy's posture appears both natural and narrative, and the interplay between child and conch shell gives the figure a poetic connection to beach, summer and sea.

As a porcelain figure, this model is a fine choice for those who are fond of classic Danish figurative art from Bing & Grøndahl. It fits beautifully in a collection of figures of children, on a shelf in the living room or as part of a personal interior with older porcelain and design with history. Older porcelain figures like this have a special charm because they are created to be preserved and appreciated through generations. This also makes them a sustainable choice when one wants quality and character rather than new production.

Boy with conch shell figure no. 36 or 4036 is at the same time an obvious collector's item for those seeking Kai Nielsen figures, Bing & Grøndahl porcelain figures or Blanc de Chine figures with a human motif. The timeless white surface makes it easy to combine with both other porcelain, glass and Nordic interiors, where it adds a calm and classic expression.
