Bing & Grøndahl Skovshoved woman figure no. 1702

The Skovshoved woman from Bing & Grøndahl is a characterful porcelain figure that brings Danish coastal life and local folk costume into the collection. The figure is designed by Kai Nielsen and depicts a powerful female figure with a white bonnet, brown bodice, light apron and dark green skirt. On her back she carries a woven basket, which emphasizes the figure's connection to everyday life, work and the old environments along the coast.

It is precisely this down-to-earth story that makes the figure so interesting. The Skovshoved woman is not just a decorative porcelain figure, but also a small piece of Danish cultural history interpreted in porcelain. The upright posture, the firm hands on the hips and the simple, solid costume give the figure presence and personality. Under the glaze, the colors appear soft and vivid, and the modeled folds in the clothing and apron give the motif depth and movement.

Kai Nielsen is known for his human figures with life and character, and here this is clearly seen in both the face, posture and overall expression. Bing & Grøndahl has at the same time created a porcelain figure that unites artistic modeling with classic Danish craftsmanship. For collectors of Bing & Grøndahl figures, porcelain figures with national costume or motifs from Danish everyday life, figure no. 1702 is therefore an obvious choice.

Older porcelain figures like this one have a special charm because they are created to be preserved and appreciated through generations. They add history, soul and personality to the home and are at the same time a beautiful sustainable alternative to new production. The figure fits well in a collection with other human figures, national costumes or classic Danish porcelain, but can also stand alone as a striking feature in the interior.
