Bing & Grøndahl boy lying on fish figurine no. 35 or 4035

This porcelain figurine from Bing & Grøndahl shows a boy lying on a fish in a lively and almost fairy-tale-like composition. The motif has a free and organic form, where the child winds himself closely around the fish, while the figurine's soft lines and calm white expression give it a poetic and sculptural presence. It is a figurine that catches the eye with its movement and its fine balance between play, nature motif and classical porcelain art.

The design is by Kai Nielsen, who is known for his characterful and sensuous figurines. Here, his design language is clearly expressed in the way the body is modelled, with rounded forms, a natural posture and a strong sense of life in the figurine. The fish is not merely a base, but an active part of the motif, which gives the figurine character and makes it interesting from several angles.

The figurine is made in Blanc de Chine, which emphasizes the pure and sculptural expression. The white porcelain surface allows the modelling to speak for itself and highlights the details in both the boy's hair, arms and legs as well as the fish's shape and tail. This makes the figurine suitable as a decorative porcelain figurine in both classic and more modern homes, where it can stand alone or be part of a collection of Bing & Grøndahl figurines and other art figurines in porcelain.

For collectors of Kai Nielsen figurines, this is a motif with great appeal, both because of the striking composition and the clear artistic identity. At the same time, older porcelain figurines like this are a beautiful way to bring quality craftsmanship and history further into today's interior design. Choosing vintage porcelain is also a conscious choice to preserve objects that are created to last and to be appreciated through generations.
