Michael Andersen & Søn woman with hymn book no. 4418-2 ceramics

This ceramic figurine from Michael Andersen & Søn depicts a woman with a hymn book in a calm, slightly forward-bent posture, which gives the motif a quiet and thoughtful expression. The figure has a distinctly folk-like character with a bonnet, large tie ribbon in brown glaze, and a decorative blue-and-white shawl over the shoulders. The small dark book motif in the hands emphasizes the mood of the figure and makes it ideal for collectors who are fond of religious motifs, cultural-historical figures, and older Danish ceramics.

The colors and the hand-painted details bring the figure to life. The blue pattern on the shawl stands beautifully against the light garment, while the long skirt has a pronounced crackled glaze effect that adds depth and character to the surface. The face is modeled with a gentle and subdued appearance, and the overall piece contains the special charm that many associate with classic figures from Michael Andersen & Søn.

As a human figure, it fits nicely into a collection of Danish ceramic figures, religious figures, or peasant motifs and everyday motifs with a historical atmosphere. It can stand alone on a shelf, in a display cabinet, or together with other figures from the same manufacturer, where its shape and decoration come beautifully into their own. For many, this type of vintage ceramics is also a good choice when one wishes to decorate with things that have history, personality, and a more sustainable footprint than new production.

It is a figure that appeals both to collectors of Michael Andersen & Søn and to those who are fond of Danish decorative arts with storytelling and soul. Its calm appearance also makes it suitable as a gift for a ceramics collector or for a recipient with an interest in older Danish design and figures with human presence.
