Royal Copenhagen Centennial plaquette Technique: Underglazed Design: Kaj Lange Motif: Amalienborg castle Through almost 100 years Royal Copenhagen's Christmas plates have given people from all over the world inspiration to either visit or to refresh memories from Denmark. To celebrate this 100 year anniversary in 2008, Royal Copenhagen issues 5 carefully chosen plates and plaquettes from the period 1908-2008. Since 1794, Amalienborg Castle has been the residence of the Danish monarch. The castle includes four seperate rococo-style palaces, which enclose the great square courtyard with the statue of King Christian VII, who built it, in the centre. Members of the famous Royal Life Guards guard the palace in their blue uniforms and black bearskins, in red sentry boxes.
