Bing & Grondahl Windjammer plate with motif of "Gladan" which was training ship of the Swedish navy. This plate is the third in a series of 6 Windjammer plates. The motif of the plates is 6 famous training ships, all painted by the famous marine artist James E. Mitchell.
By the manufacturing of the plates there has been used 22 colours and 24 carat gold to get the exact expression of the details. Windjammer is the English word for big ships using sail.
The artist James E. Mitchell, who has painted all 6 motifs for the plates, has been called the discoverer of the sea by critics. His lifelong studies of the sea has made James E. Mitchell to one of the finst marine painters in the world.
