About the item
With The Old Organist from 1910, Bing & Grøndahl has created a Christmas plate where calm, devotion and music merge in an atmospheric winter motif. In the middle of the picture, the organist is seen seated at the large organ, surrounded by the church's high space, columns and vaults. The striking organ pipes rise as the centre of the motif and give the plate a solemn character that suits the contemplative mood of Christmas beautifully.

The title The Old Organist lifts the motif from merely being an interior scene to a story of tradition and faithfulness. The figure at the organ appears quiet and concentrated, as if the music is just beginning to fill the church room. The window in the background and the board with hymn numbers emphasise the ecclesiastical context and give the motif a special anchoring in the Danish Christmas tradition, where hymn singing and organ music have had a natural place for generations.

The Christmas plate is designed by C. Ersgaard and belongs to the famous series from Bing & Grøndahl, which began in 1895. It was the world's first Christmas plate series, and since 1895 a new plate has been released every year. The 1910 edition is therefore part of a long and significant Danish design and collecting history. Each edition was produced in a limited number, and after the year's final firing the mould was destroyed, so the completed production could not be resumed later.

It is precisely for this reason that the older Christmas plates have a special appeal for collectors and for those who appreciate porcelain with history and soul. An original Christmas plate from 1910 carries not only a beautiful motif, but also the story of craftsmanship, tradition and the joy of preserving quality objects that can live on from home to home. This makes it a sustainable choice and a gift with both cultural-historical depth and personality.

As this edition is from 1905 onwards, it can also be used as a small plate all year round, for example for cake or dessert. In December, it is of course ideal to bring out again, where the blue-white motif adds classic Christmas atmosphere to the table. When it is not in use, it can be hung up as part of the wall decoration, and it has two holes on the back for hanging.
