About the item
Interior from a Gothic Church from 1902 is an atmospheric Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate, where calm, devotion, and winter solemnity merge in the classic blue-and-white porcelain. The motif draws the eye into a church interior with high vaults, where a large chandelier hovers above the altar, and the lit candles cast a quiet glow over the room. It is a year plate that conveys the contemplativeness of Christmas with unusual simplicity and depth.

It is precisely the title Interior from a Gothic Church that gives the motif its special character. The prominent arches, the narrow window openings, and the clear symmetry emphasize the elevated and solemn expression of Gothic architecture. In the foreground, the altar with cross and candles can be seen, and the entire composition is built around light as a unifying symbol. This makes this Christmas plate one of the more ecclesiastically characterized year plates, where the atmosphere is not carried by people or winter landscape, but by the stillness of the room and the living light.

The 1902 year plate belongs to the early releases in Bing & Grøndahl's famous series, which began in 1895 and thus became the world's first Christmas plate series. Since 1895, a new plate has been released every year, and it is precisely the early year plates that have a particular historical interest, because they lie so close to the beginning of the series. This plate is also designed by Jens Peter Dahl Jensen, which gives it extra significance for collectors of Danish porcelain and classic Christmas ceramics.

Each year plate was produced in a limited number, and after the year's final firing, the mold was destroyed. Therefore, each individual Christmas plate constitutes a completed release, which could not later be put into production again. For collectors and for those who appreciate older quality objects with history, that is part of the charm. At the same time, it is a beautiful way to pass on original Danish porcelain with soul to a new home, where it can still create atmosphere many generations later.

This Christmas plate is also ideal as a gift for collectors, for those interested in church history, or for the person who wants classic Danish Christmas decoration with depth and narrative. On the back there are two holes for hanging, so the plate can easily be hung up as part of the Christmas decoration.
