About the item
St. Peter's Church 1908 brings one of Copenhagen's distinctive church interiors into Bing & Grøndahl's classic blue Christmas universe. On this Christmas plate, the church rises dark and calm in the winter evening, surrounded by snow, bare trees and a starry sky that gives the motif an almost solemn silence. The deep cobalt blue glaze and the light details create a beautiful contrast, where the snow and the stars are allowed to shine against the dark December sky.

The motif is rendered in an atmospheric and almost poetic interpretation, where St. Peter's Church appears not merely as a building, but as a symbol of peace, tradition and Christmas tranquillity in the middle of the city. The church's tower and roof surfaces stand out clearly in the landscape, while the snowy foreground leads the eye toward the scene itself. This gives this edition a particular wintry depth, which fits beautifully into the series of Bing & Grøndahl's historic Christmas plates.

The 1908 edition belongs to the early releases in the famous series, which began in 1895 and thus became the world's first Christmas plate series. Since 1895, a new plate has been released every year, and the early editions in particular hold a special place among collectors because they are close to the beginning of the series. Each Christmas plate was also produced in a limited number, and after the year's final firing, the mould was destroyed, so the completed edition could not later be put into production again.

This plate is designed by Poul Jørgensen for Bing & Grøndahl and contains both cultural history, Danish design tradition and collector interest. At the same time, it is from the period when the Christmas plates can also be used as a smaller plate. Therefore, St. Peter's Church 1908 can both be hung up as part of a collection and brought out in December for cake or dessert, where the blue motif adds a classic Christmas atmosphere to the table.

For you who appreciate older porcelain with history, this edition is also a fine example of how good craftsmanship can be preserved and given new life in a modern home. An early Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate like this combines collector's value, Danish cultural heritage and the sustainable pleasure of choosing quality objects that are made to last through generations.
