Bing & Grøndahl polar bear figurine 1692 or 417 Niels Nielsen

This polar bear from Bing & Grøndahl is a classic porcelain figurine with a calm, lifelike expression and a form that brings the motif to life from every angle. The figurine shows a standing polar bear with its head raised, as if it is scenting the air, and precisely that movement gives the model presence and character. The glossy white glaze emphasizes the soft transitions in the body, while the fine grey nuances at the face and snout highlight the figurine's expression.

The model is made after a design by Niels Nielsen, who is known for his animal figurines with a sure sense of both anatomy and atmosphere. Here the lines are simple and harmonious, but at the same time full of observation: the powerful body, the short legs, the slightly stretched neck and the upward-facing head create a figurine that appears both upright and alive. It is a Bing & Grøndahl figurine that appeals to collectors of Danish porcelain, but also to those who want a distinctive animal figurine in the interior.

A polar bear figurine like this fits beautifully on a shelf, in a display cabinet or as a freestanding decorative element, where the glossy surface can be allowed to interact with light and surroundings. As an older porcelain figurine, it also carries the special value that lies in preserving good craftsmanship and passing on design with history. This makes it an obvious choice for both collectors and for those who like to decorate with original objects with soul rather than new production.

Figurine number 1692 is an important identification for the model, and it is also referred to as no. 417. It is made in porcelain with underglaze, which suits the figurine's smooth, calm surface and classic expression well.
