Bing & Grøndahl polar bear figurine no. 2217 or 458 Svend Jespersen

This polar bear from Bing & Grøndahl is a classic porcelain figurine with a calm and lifelike expression. The figurine is modelled by Svend Jespersen, and the motif appears simple, clean and full of character with the long body, the low head and the powerful paws, which give the polar bear an almost gliding movement across the surface. The white glaze emphasizes the motif's Arctic atmosphere and gives the figurine a soft light that suits both modern and more classic interiors.

Bing & Grøndahl animal figurines are known for their fine balance between naturalism and stylization, and this is clearly seen here. The polar bear has a lively visual language with discreet details in the face, ears and paws, while the overall impression retains the simple, Scandinavian expression that makes the figurine easy to place in the home. It is a porcelain figurine that appeals both to collectors of Danish design and to those who want a decorative animal figurine with history and personality.

As an older porcelain figurine, it also carries the story of a piece of Danish craftsmanship that was created to last and to be appreciated for many years. It fits beautifully on a shelf, in a display cabinet or as part of a grouped display with other animal figurines from Bing & Grøndahl and Royal Copenhagen. The polar bear motif also makes it an obvious gift for collectors, for nature lovers or for anyone who loves porcelain with character and cultural history.

The former model designation Old B&G no. 2217 is often mentioned together with no. 458, and both numbers are therefore relevant search terms for collectors looking for this very figurine. A fine opportunity to pass on a piece of Danish porcelain history and let it gain new life in a contemporary interior.
