Bing & Grøndahl chicken figurine no. 2194 by Svend Jespersen

Bing & Grøndahl chicken figurine no. 2194 by Svend Jespersen is a porcelain figurine with a calm and natural expression that makes it easy to appreciate. The motif is the small chicken, depicted in a simple and intimate posture, where it stands slightly leaning forward on its thin legs. The figurine has a soft, rounded shape, and the warm light brown glaze gives it a lively character, while the white base forms a fine contrast beneath the bird.

Svend Jespersen is known for his animal figurines, where naturalism and simple design meet in a convincing way. This is clearly seen here. The chicken's body is modeled with a few confident lines, and wings, head, and beak are defined with discreet details that give the figurine character without seeming heavy. The glossy surface and underglaze technique emphasize the classic porcelain craftsmanship for which Bing & Grøndahl is appreciated among collectors of Danish porcelain.

As a bird figurine, this chicken fits beautifully into a collection of Bing & Grøndahl animal figurines, but it can also stand alone as a small porcelain figurine on a shelf, in a display cabinet, or on a desk. The motif adds a touch of nature and a rustic atmosphere to the home, and it is precisely the modest scale of the expression that makes it easy to place in both classic and modern interiors.

For collectors and for those who appreciate older porcelain with a history, it is a figurine that combines Danish design tradition, craftsmanship, and a motif with immediate appeal. Vintage figurines like this bring personality into the home and are at the same time a sustainable choice, because beautifully crafted porcelain is allowed to live on and be appreciated anew.
