Bing & Grøndahl polar bear figurine 2218 or 459 Svend Jespersen

This walking polar bear from Bing & Grøndahl is a classic porcelain figurine with a calm, focused expression. The figurine is modelled in a low, forward movement, where the head is held stretched forward and the paws are placed heavily and securely. This gives the figurine a natural tension and a fine sense of the animal's strength and agility. The white glaze emphasizes the polar bear's simple form and lets the light play softly across the back, shoulders and paws.

The motif is easily recognizable and fits well among Danish animal figurines in porcelain, where nature, observation and craftsmanship meet. Here the expression is subdued and clean, without superfluous details, which makes the figurine suitable both as a collector's item and as a decorative porcelain figurine in the interior. The polar bear works beautifully alone on a shelf, in a display cabinet or together with other animal figurines from Bing & Grøndahl and Royal Copenhagen.

Svend Jespersen has given the figurine a lively posture, where you can clearly sense the movement forward through the landscape. It is precisely this kind of porcelain figurines that still have appeal today: well-executed design objects with history, character and a form that endures over time. For those interested in Danish porcelain, Bing & Grøndahl figurines or animal figurines with a classic expression, this polar bear is a fine choice. At the same time, older porcelain figurines are a beautiful way to carry quality and history forward in the home as a sustainable alternative to new production.
