Royal Copenhagen Wave and Shore figure no. 1132 or 088

Wave and Shore is a Royal Copenhagen figure with a strong, sensual expression, where a man and a woman are depicted close together on an undulating base that brings to mind sea, rock and coast. The composition is lively and dramatic, yet at the same time calm in its formal language. The two bodies mirror and balance each other, while the soft lines and the close movement give the figure a clear sense of intimacy and human connection.

The motif is executed with great attention to anatomy, posture and movement. The light porcelain body stands in beautiful contrast to the base's blue and grey shades, which emphasize the figure's title and the maritime atmosphere. Seen from several angles, the figure changes character, and that is precisely what makes it particularly suitable as an art figure in the interior, where it can be placed freely and experienced all the way around.

The figure is designed by Theodor Lundberg and made by Royal Copenhagen in porcelain with underglaze. This gives the surface depth, gloss and a fine colour effect, especially in the undulating blue sections at the base. As a porcelain figure, it combines sculptural strength with classic Danish porcelain craftsmanship, and it will appeal both to collectors of Royal Copenhagen figures and to those seeking a striking art figure with a romantic and maritime motif.

Older porcelain figures like this one have a special ability to add history, personality and lasting quality to the home. Wave and Shore fits beautifully on a shelf, in a display cabinet or as a decorative focal point in the living room, where it can stand alone or together with other figures and art objects. It is also an obvious choice for the collector who appreciates classic figures with both movement, narrative and preservation value.
