Royal Copenhagen Herd Boy figurine no. 1659, 32 cm, Chr. Thomsen

Royal Copenhagen Herd Boy figurine no. 1659 is a striking porcelain figurine with a calm, narrative expression. It depicts a herd boy sitting on a stone with bare feet, a dark cap and dark trousers with suspenders, while the light shirt and the greenish base create a fine contrast in the figurine. The motif brings to mind country life, work and the quiet moments outdoors, where a pause becomes part of the rhythm of the day.

Christian Thomsen has created a child figurine with presence and character. The slightly forward-bent posture, one hand against the stone and the thoughtful facial expression give the figurine life and personality. At the same time, the size of 32 cm makes this large Royal Copenhagen figurine very decorative, so it finds a natural place on a chest of drawers, in a display cabinet or as a central element in a collection of Danish porcelain figurines.

The figurine is made of porcelain and specified as underglaze, which supports the classic expression for which Royal Copenhagen is known. The subdued colours and the modelled details in clothing, hands, face and terrain give the motif depth without appearing heavy. It is precisely the type of figurine that appeals to collectors of Royal Copenhagen figurines, but also to you who want decorative art and design with history, soul and lasting quality.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special ability to add personality to the home. They carry stories from another time and are at the same time a sustainable choice when beautiful craftsmanship is allowed to live on in new surroundings. Herd Boy goes well with other child figurines, rural motifs and classic Danish porcelain, but can also stand alone as a characterful collector's item.
